This review won't matter to most local's here in Albany,as over 70% of the population here is African American, but if you happen to be white as I am,and you want to stop in at the Polite's Southside Package shop, owned by a racist old black woman, keep driving, and take your business elsewhere. I entered the package shop today for a little weekend cheer, and met this truly racist black woman, who I believe is the owner of the store.Immediately with a hard look, and rude tone of voice, she ask for my I.D.No problem there,I had it,and pulled it out to show her.The I.D. is current, and ofcourse shows my date of birth, well over 21 years of age. Well after showing it to her,she gives me another hard look, and looks back at the I.D. again.I simply then said to her,"mam"it's hot outside(the South, you know),and I trying to make a purchase, not here to play games,so would just sell me a pint of Vodka",then her response was,"I don't have to sell you a damm thing",and infact, she did refuse to sell me the alcohol,to which she did not want to sell me anyway. Here's the clincher though, and why I say this store owner is racist. While still in the store, and getting ready to leave, another customer enters who is African American.I step aside while he tells the woman what he wants, and without even asking for his I.D. he makes his purchase with no hassle at all.She also has a sign on the door that says,"All purchases must show I.D.",but apparently that must mean,"All purchases by White People, must show I.D.but even then I still might not sell to you because your white, and don't want your kind coming in here anyway".Just filling in some blanks,I don't think she could legally get by putting on a sign. Anyway,it seems I'm the lone reviewer of this business, but if you choose to,you could look at that positively, and figure that most white people here in Albany,go to other liquor stores here owned by other white people or atleast ones they know who aren't racist. This was my first time in this store, and definitely my last.
